Re: Ratzinger claims condoms would worsen African AIDS crisis

I'm not even seeing his argument on this: in what way do condoms worsen the spread of AIDS?

Re: Is baptising babies a breach of human rights?

well they'll say baptism is just baptism they get the chance to confirm at 12 A child of 12 will do what ever he/she is expected to do by their parents and peers and is in no way responsible for their actions - especially as they are given no other information and they stands to loose some bucks if...

Is baptising babies a breach of human rights?

I don't know if this has been discussed before but it's just a thought that came to me the other day: is baptising babies technically a breach of the baby's right to freedom of religion? Obviously the baby has no ability to choose a religion for itself at that age, but if the parents force him/her t...

Re: Discrimination Against Atheists

Having people disagree with your views, or criticise them, or reject them, is not really discrimination – it’s healthy discourse in a diverse society. Thus the headmaster of a Catholic school expressing the view that any form of theism is acceptable but “atheist or agnostic is not acceptable” is no...

Re: Discrimination Against Atheists

Howdy! Well I attend a Catholic school and the principal is a Catholic priest who's a real 'Freedom of religion isn't freedom from religion' kind of guy. He actually said once "You can be a Jew, Hindu or Muslim for all I care but atheist or agnostic is not acceptable!" That's just one of my experien...

Re: Obama's inaugural address

The non-believers line made me smile alright! I don't really know enough about him to make any kind of comment on his personal beliefs to be honest, but while his religious preachiness does seem a bit below him, he definitely would not be where he is today without it.

Effectively, there is no Irish, Gaelic or GAA word for the colour orange. I wonder why? Eh.. oráiste is the irish for orange!! Trust me, the modern irish language has words for everything these days. Van - veain Wardrobe - cófra or várdrús Internet - quite literally translated to idirlíon It's a ba...

Re: If you don’t pray in my school, I won’t think in your church

From my understanding, the Educate Together schools provide a religious curriculum that explores all religions in a non-biased way, while providing resources for parents who want to have after school 'faith placement' (i.e. indoctrination) classes for a particular religion. While I wouldn't agree wi...

Re: Richard Dawkins on The Late Late Show from December 2006

Ah yes, I remember that interview. It was a kind of turning point for me, it was what really got me thinking about religion critically for the first time!
