Re: name this fallacy

I came up with Retrospective Determinism as well, but there's also Survivorship bias. They are discounting the experience of all the people who lived similar lives but are dead, because those people aren't there. By its nature, an AA meeting is going to be largely a group of people who have two thin...

Re: Need Help

I can't really help directly with your job search as I don't work in a sector that requires unskilled labour. You've probably tried all the supermarkets and fast food restaurants in your area but keep trying. They'll be impressed by your persistence and may think of you when they have an opening. Go...

Re: Need Help

I dont have much time Then you have a real problem. Your only advantage over the average 16-year-old is that they're too busy going to school and studying for their Leaving Cert to work full-time. You should work on your education. If you ever want to earn more than minimum wage, you'll need at lea...

Re: Need Help

I dont have any qualifications as of yet That's a pity. Qualifications are important. Are you at least working towards something? Do you have anything to your credit that you might not think of as a qualification? A completed FÁS course? Driving license? First Aid certification? A good Leaving Cert...

Brian, there are a few events coming up, none of them organised by Atheist Ireland but likely to be of interest nonetheless. Check http://www.atheist.ie/2013/01/secular-sunday-55/#55loc2 for details. He lived - and died - in Cork, and is buried there, so I think we can claim him.

Re: Atheist Ireland starting community outreach group

We've come up with several ideas which we're researching at the moment, and we're meeting again on Sunday. One project that we've already started is a lending team on Kiva, a microlending charity that helps people work their way out of poverty. At the moment new lenders get a free loan (donated by a...

Re: Please present good reasons for philosophical naturalism

Do you see any elephants that have always existed? No? Is it not then obvious that there is nothing that has always existed? what has your answer to do with the point i made ? This is becoming tedious. You used the lack of spontaneously appearing elephants as "proof" that nothing can ever spontaneo...
