Re: Books I am reading or about to read
I'm nearly finished The Authoritarians by Bob Altemeyer (non fiction). It has some interesting theories about the rise of religious fundamentalism and right wing authoritarianism. He is allowing it to be downloaded for free. Here's a link to the uni website if anyone is interested. http://home.cc.u...

Dutch Roman Catholic Church 'castrated at least 10 boys'
At least 10 teenage boys or young men under the age of 21 were surgically castrated "to get rid of homosexuality" while in the care of the Dutch Roman Catholic Church in the 1950s. Telegraph article Extremely disturbing reading, just shows what happens when institutions get too powerful. "The docum...

Re: Gay men blood donor ban to be lifted in UK
The increased risk is anal sex - and I just asked the boyfriend: they don't ask a general "have you had anal sex" question. The issue is one of sexual practise. Anybody who has anal sex, or unprotected sex, or is sexually promiscuous will have a higher incidence of undetected viruses. Yes, I'm pret...

Re: Is Sir Patrick Moore an Atheist?
I don't know either, he does have conservative politics - supports UKIP and says there are "too many women running the BBC."
But he does keep to the natural explanations of how the universe formed etc. And I know he is really against pseudoscience like astrology and UFOs.

Re: stork theory - for psalm girl
As some of you know I have been for some time a strong believer in IF (Intelligent Falling) which I know to be true as it is backed up by evidence (similar to the above evidence). This is similar and having read it once I am convinced it is true. Stork theory is quite revolutionary and totally true...

Re: stork theory - for psalm girl
But the THEORY of sexual reproduction is crazy – how can a single cell turn into a complex baby by RANDOM CHANCE? All the billions of cells of a baby have to be put together in the right order; the chances of this happening are 10,000,000,000,000 to 1. In other words it is IMPOSSIBLE. Stop believing...

Re: Apple triggers 'religious' reaction in fans' brains
Hence, we must logically conclude that Apple is God.aiseiri47 wrote:I mean, (assuming God exists) should it really be possible for a brain chemistry to react the same way to computers and iPods as it does to worship of God?

Re: Motivational speaker
He asked for 2 volunteers, (crucially) people who hadn't done this before with him or who weren't aware of it. He asked chap 1 to hold out his right arm and resist as he tried to force it down; he couldn't. He did the same to chap 2 who was a burly rugby player. He then got chap to put an unlit cig...

Eating meat immoral?
So what’s your opinion; is eating meat immoral? If it is immoral to slaughter animals for their meat then is it okay to eat the carcass of an animal that has died naturally? Personally, on a semi-irrational note, I am a meat eater. I really don’t think I could decide never to eat meat again. Discuss...

Re: Christian Missionaries in Afghanistan
I only said that a true Christian wouldn't hurt Muslim Missionaries from Afghanistan or any where for that matter regardless of where he/she might encounter them. But hurting/not hurting Muslim Missionaries has nothing to do with Christianity. If someone believes in all the dogmas of Christianity a...
