Theists that you like to read/watch

For me: Alan Watts and Kahil Gibran. I can't throw out everything that these guys have said -- I just have to take some things they say with a pinch of salt. The Prophet is quite far from being secular but there are series of thought provoking passages and makes for an interesting read time and time...

Re: New Pope good/bad for Atheism, what do you think?

"To me, sounds like one of the old guard, much the same as the last one." I don't think this could be further wrong. The new pope is doing a far better job in terms of positively representing the Church to the world and this is not good for promoting secularism over theism. The scandals humbled the ...

Re: Marijuana damaging to kids and teenagers?

Apparently from what I've read the damage is permanent and isn't like tobacco smoking. So no 10 year detox will make up for it.

The real bottle neck is using IQ as an indicator for intelligence.

Also would have been helpful to get measures on mental health trends but that might simply have been beyond the scope of the experiment.

Irelands Greatest

A better list than the one the Irish populace made - I think AI might agree. If anything though it's too focused on academia and old white men.

Interesting article I thought I'd share with the board.

Re: Humanists to get legal status for weddings

I would like to know more about this term "nonconfessional". I interpret it to mean that the Catholic Church is a confessional body because it caters for peoples need to unburden their sins by talking. HAI offers no such service. Ceremonies and services such as weddings and funerals can be secular -...

Re: Teenage girl refused place at school following pregnancy

Poor girl, she should be given a pat on the back for at least trying to go back to school.

Whats interesting about this is how overtly the principal was in giving his reasons and in writing. Usually such discrimination is silent when one is in such a position of accountability.
