Re: Count Me Out.ie

Still haven't heard back on my application so have now approached the Bishop's secretary (Arundel and Brighton diocese in England) directly to ask what process they recognise.

Going to ask a lawyer friend if I can force them to act if they continue to ignore me...

Re: Muslims Threaten To Kill South Park Creators

Hmm - I can't agree on this. I think that South Park has just become childish. They don't take a position: they just mock everything and everyone (though someone wimped out on this one). Well OK - but it's not really radical. It's really just childish. It might be funny - and the 'laughing at theist...

Re: Count Me Out.ie

Can anyone tell me how long it has taken to get a reply on this? I sent my witnessed forms off to the church I was baoptised in, in Dorking, England - about a month ago. Wondering how long I wait before resending... The thing appears a bit pointless if they don't acknowledge receipt - and confirm ac...

Re: Is it just me or should there be a Irish Atheist Ad bus run?

There will always be a campaign that can use funding, even if buses were to turn us down, there are plenty of other outlets. Sure - but fundraising for a specific event or target is generally much more successful than a general funding appeal. And if there is any chance that the funds won't be used...

Nuremburg defence

Cardinal Brady appears to have adopted the Nuremburg defence if the quotes are to be believed today: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8567144.stm I happen to agree with him: resigning doesn't really seem necessary. I'm not sure that morally there is much difference between protecting paedophi...

Re: Is it just me or should there be a Irish Atheist Ad bus run?

There wasn't any campaign from Atheist Ireland anyway. We would need to raise the money first before we went looking for a bus to put something on. With respect, I disagree: shouldn't we just check that definitively there is an organisation that will host the ads before we collect the cash? We run ...

Does it get better than this?

http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/mar/04/vatican-gay-sex-scandal Trying to work out why I feel slightly guilty about being so pleased with this story (I've been laughing since I read it...). After all - no one involved has been hurt in the slightest... in fact: hopefully some of them derived some...

Re: When and why did you go public about your disbelief in god?

Don't feel too bad I was in my 30's and although I was losing faith more and more as I got closer to 30, my wife made me sit down and think it through, Dawkins made me feel normal enough to come out... now you can't shut me up  Tell me about it. My missus has a fair point when she points out t...

Re: When and why did you go public about your disbelief in god?

Realised eventually that I was in fact an atheist and no longer a catlick. Embarassingly it took till my early 30's to work it out. Still - got there eventually. But then I read Dawkins' God Delusion and it persuaded me it was important to 'come out'. So I did. And it caused a lot of pain and diffic...
