You know that feeling you used to get when you missed mass?

Well I have it all the time only 10 times worse. I decided not to send my son to a Catholic school. It seemed like a good idea at the time. I'm now an atheist so didn't see any point in putting him through all that stuff. But now I regret that decision. I feel sad that he won't learn all the hymns a...

Re: Dawkins and the bible plan

I agree in theory with what Dawkins is saying. Yes it is a cornerstone of western civilisation and it should be known to school children.

However, he can't go about lambasting religion then saying everyone should read the bible.

Re: What Would You Do?

So if you sent them to the Catholic school, would you opt them out of all the religious stuff ie Communion, Mass, Confession etc or would you just let them join in?

What Would You Do?

Here is a question. I guess we are all lapsed Catholic / atheists here. What would you do if you lived in Northern Ireland and the choice was between sending your children to a Catholic school or a 'non-denominational' school which is non-religious in name, but a large percentage of the children wer...

I remember seeing that before. I couldn't actually get through it. Brand makes me laugh though - or at least he used to.

Tim Minchin - I can't stand him. What's with the eye shadow? He's like a poor man's Russell Brand.

Re: Going to Mass

Blessing myself is a real bugbear with me. A silly secret sign that only true believers are supposed to know.

Re: temple of atheism

I agree with bipedalhumanoid. Surely one of the perks of Atheism is not having to get your arse out of bed on a Sunday morning. I tend to think of 'Temples to Atheism' to be a contradiction in terms. I think anything that you 'revere' for want of a better word as a sort of temple to something that i...

Going to Mass

I presume even the most hardened atheists among you have from time to time, set foot back in a church. What do you think when you go there? I personally look around and think do all these people actually still believe all this bs. It's also the elaborate ceremony which grates with me most of all. An...

Humanist Groups or Societies

Does anyone here have any experience of attending or being part of any Humanist groups? Since being 'de-converted' I've done a lot of thinking about how I want to rear my kids. I don't know much about it, but form what I've read, Humanism at least seems to have some basic code of ethics. It's also a...
