Re: Please present good reasons for philosophical naturalism

I know I'm jumping into this really late but there are some points in Adonai88's argument that I'd like to take issue with. And what caused the Big Bang ? Well, nobody knows exactly so let's just say it was a petulant space wizard who was somehow always there. Do you agree there must have bee...

Re: Eating meat immoral?

I have no problems with eating meat. I only have a problem when animals are not treated with respect. I think it isfar more inmoral to eat fish because of the way we catch them etc. The only argument for not eating meat I encountered which hold water (IMO) is that to rear animals we have to give th...

Re: Eating meat immoral?

I agree with paolovf and aiseri47, I think that eating meat in and of itself is not immoral but that there are food production practices which I would consider immoral. Chief among these is battery chickens which I think is such a shameful practice that it should be outlawed asap. I also think that ...

Re: "Ireland without abortion ... safest country in the world"?

oldrnwisr , regarding the information you provided - while I fully expected it to be a twisting of truths, it seems completely out of line to be using completely out-of-date and currently irrelevant (and thus false) statistics in a current advertising campaign. This campaign was launched this year ...

Re: "Ireland without abortion ... safest country in the world"?

Just came across a link (via something a friend "Liked" on Facebook) associated with an "initiative" by Pro-Life Campaign which claims that "Ireland without abortion is the safest country in the world for pregnant women." (http://www.prolifecampaign.ie/pages.php?id=167) I was intrigued by this clai...

Re: Kimyal Tribe of West Papua getting NT for first time

Jesus actually commands his disciples to kill unbelievers. "But those mine enemies, which would not that I should reign over them, bring hither, and slay them before me " Luke 19:27 Actually, Jesus does not command his disciples to kill unbelievers here. Jesus is using a parable here to teach, amon...

Re: Kimyal Tribe of West Papua getting NT for first time

Blood is being shed, yet again, in the name of God. Where in the New Testament does it call for the shedding of blood in the name of God? John 16:2b says, "yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service." Any one who sheds blood in the name of God (Yahweh I pr...

Re: What caused the universe?

Has anyone read Hawking's most recent book? Apparently he has satisfied himself that 'something can come from nothing' (ridiculous paraphrasing!!). If so, then all that's left for us to do is look forward, no? (or perhaps, sideways...) Hi Daithi, yeah I've read The Grand Design and I'm listening to...
