Re: David Quinn "No atheists in the mine"-my head just exploded

I just had a quick look at the report Ciaran linked. It seems to be a reprise of any and all research that links anything positive with religiosity. But as far as I can tell, all the research it mentions seems to be within the context of church going. i.e. believers who go to church a lot and are he...

Re: Which Internet Browser Do You Use?

My Mum got one of the original Macintosh's back in the 80's. Actually, I think she won it in a competition just as she was starting her own business.

Looks kind of 'Blakes 7' now:

Re: Which Internet Browser Do You Use?

Cheers for that Dev and inedifix, I'm gonna give Google Chrome a try, one of the most annoying things for me about Safari is the Bookmark bar and sometimes you can't watch a video on it. Those must be cross platform issues - they're fine on Mac. You won't be disappointed in Chrome, though. Unless t...

Re: Which Internet Browser Do You Use?

Looks like I’m the odd one out. I've just started using Camino . I'm a Mac user, and was happily using Safari for about 5 years, but the recent updates seemed to have slowed it down to a crawl. Very sad, because I love all of Safari's other features, it just does everything I want. So I switched to ...

Re: David Quinn "No atheists in the mine"-my head just exploded

Apparently Quinn "knows from research" that: ...people who practise a religion live longer on average than those who don't. ...they tend to be healthier because they're less likely to abuse drugs or alcohol. ...Religious believers are also less likely to commit suicide, or succumb to depression. ......

Re: Ground Zero

If I have done that, I too apologise. Part of the reason that debates such as this often fall apart, I think, is due to the fact that a simple misunderstanding can result in quite a lot of additional text in the trhead. This text serves to confuse and makes it impractical to go back through it all ...

Just checked out their website, the Powerbalance crowd. This warning made me crack up... http://www.powerbalanceuk.com/media/other-images/counterfeit.jpg You can imagine the board room meeting: "How dare these charlatans rip off our fake product instead of coming up with one of their own! What do we...

Solar Dynamics Observatory

Anyone checked out NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory . It's a fascinating project - great to be able to understand our own star better, and seeing it in extreme ultra violet makes it much easier on the human eye! Here's the blurb... SDO: The Solar Dynamics Observatory is the first mission to be laun...

Re: Creationism is all around us.

Here's the center for intelligent design website http://www.c4id.org.uk/ . Scary stuff, they're using the Kalam cosmological argument in their "Was there a cause of the universe?" section here http://www.c4id.org.uk/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=181:was-there-a-cause-of-the-universe&...

Re: Big Bounce vs Big Bang

Boy, it's a shame professors can't, or won't, speak plain English. And the L seems to have dropped off this guy's keyboard, I'm sure he means flatness, not fatness. Although Non-Gaussian Fuctuations sound like fun! But more seriously, it is fascinating stuff. And I can't see why our universe should ...
