Re: Crime of blasphemous libel proposed for Defamation Bill

Indeed I will but what is the point of it?
Is he really fucking Matt Damon?
Is he telling us he, and Matt Damon, are homosexuals and lovers?
Is fucking used as an emphatic and he is telling us that he is really Mall Damon?
Is there some relevance to blasphemy that escapes me?
WHAT is the point of it?

So it's not going to be blasphemous libel, just blasphemy?

Re: Why do we need same sex marriage?

Just read down to the small print: "Note: At present Humanist weddings do not carry legal status in Ireland and couples should make their own arrangements in this regard." Bit of a cop-out, I think.

Re: Why do we need same sex marriage?

Hmmm! This from the Irish Humanist Association website: "Humanist weddings can be held anywhere - indoors or out in the open. Many couples choose to hold their ceremony in a hotel, country house or castle; others simply use their own garden. Some are held overseas - every year the list of venues get...

Re: Crime of blasphemous libel proposed for Defamation Bill

Wouldn't blasphemous libel require proof of a libel? As I have observed it, libel requires that a person's good name is diminished in the minds of 'right-thinking' people - usually, it is claimed, to his financial detrement. So religious believers would need to testify that they thought less of God/...

Re: Why do we need same sex marriage?

Last year, if I'm not greatly mistaken, the regulation was changed so weddings could be performed anywhere. I presume a state notary or clerk of the register must also attend - for a fee. Hotels were the first to cash in on this but it's good to see that the humanists also saw the opportunity.

Re: Why do we need same sex marriage?

Our friends over the the Humanist website offer non-religious ceremonies for marriages and funerals.

Re: Why do we need same sex marriage?

I agree with Denice. It's interesting that whenever a gay couple want to get married, the whole institution and its history has to be analysed. Marriage is not just a legal contract. It is a complex social mechanism by which people join their lives to each other and declare it before their families,...
