Re: Church still not aiding sex abuse audit

In a Secular school parents would be able to hold the State responsible for the protection of their children from sexual abuse. The Guidelines on the Protection of children from sexual abuse and indeed any kind of abuse would be statutory and the Dept of Education could fire and indeed seek to prose...

Re: Parental demand at heart of school patronage

To my mind the slogan "Plurality of patronage as far as possible" actually means "segregation as far as possible". When they start talking about 'choice' we should say that 'choice' actually means that they want the 'choice' to segregate children according to their parents religious convictions. Nic...

Re: Ruairi Quinn plans forum on removing Catholic Patronage

I think a lot of people when discussing secular education just think of the French system. The French system of secular education is not the norm in Europe. Educate Together schools are in compliance with Article 42.1 of the Irish Constitution and they do not have faith formation during the school d...

Re: Ruairi Quinn plans forum on removing Catholic Patronage

I heard that as well. I thought the INTO gave a very good answer to the question which was that he should look at the meaning of secular education. However Prof John Coolahan referred to Rules not the Constitution. I have never seen or read these Rules nor are they mentioned in the recent Report and...

Nothing new here at all.

Dr. Eoin Daly's Submission and Dr. Alison Mawhinney's Submission are both of interest to us.

Re: Discussion Paper on school enrollments

I put up a comment on the Labour Party site as well. The issue is that by ratifying the various UN Conventions and the European Convention on Human Rights the State has guaranteed to anyone within their jurisdiction a right of access to educational institutions existing at a given time. That right m...

Re: Muslims engage with PZ Myers and Dawkins at conference

The Islamic Education and Research Academy tell us why Dawah is important: “Its time to positively engage with society.” I looked up the word “Da’wah” in Arabic and it means to invite to something. When it is used in conjunction with Islam it is understood to mean “inviting to the way of submission ...

Re: Muslims engage with PZ Myers and Dawkins at conference

I'm guessing that alevel18 was not one of the five Islamists who were there, and is only relying on second-hand information. While I know it's acceptable for Muslims to lie to unbelievers in order to further their cause it's pretty stupid not to make up a new username. See http://www.searchtick.com...
