Faith School Menace?

http://www.channel4.com/programmes/faith-school-menace Professor Richard Dawkins calls on us to reconsider the consequences of faith education, which, he believes, indoctrinates and divides children, and bamboozles parents I'm looking forward to watching this programme. I couldn't agree more with th...

Well put!

My niece is planning a christening very soon for her daughter and I've stated I won't be attending the indoctrination ceremony. She's okay with it.

@OP, I personally wouldn't accept the offer of being a god-parent.

Re: Italy seeks to end classroom crucifix ban

I hear what you are saying but I think it would be a major first step in the right direction. Again, I'm not sure I agree. In the long run, I'd like to see it. But to make this type of largely meaningless gesture a first priority would be wrong. When we get to the point where our children are being...

Re: Italy seeks to end classroom crucifix ban

A crucifix on the wall is far less indoctrinating than half of 2nd class given over to communion. I hear what you are saying but I think it would be a major first step in the right direction. There is a lovely new national school being built not far from me in a multi-cultural part of the city and ...

Italy seeks to end classroom crucifix ban

If the (Italian) government loses, it would mean that all religious artefacts in classrooms across the European Union could be outlawed.
This is something I'd really love to see happen. And not just in classrooms either.

Re: Supreme Court rejects Vatican appeal in sex abuse case

I know I shouldn't care what happens within the RCC because I defected last year, but at least now there might be justice. From this mornings Indo: http://www.independent.ie/national-news/vatican-can-be-sued-over-abuse-us-supreme-court-2238272.html This special status of the Vatican caused uproar la...

Belgian Catholic offices raided in sex abuse probe

Will we ever see the same raids happening here in Ireland? Personally, I doubt it.

Church casts net over school

From todays Galway Advertiser: http://www.advertiser.ie/galway/article/27501 I was suprised to learn this though: Isn’t it high time now in light of the Murphy and Ryan reports that a referendum takes place to change the 1937 Constitution which allocates taxpayers’ money to facilitate religious inst...

Re: Collections fall at Dublin mass

Got to factor in polish people returning home as well. 10% is not a lot - if it was 30% - I might be encouraged to think that we are throwing off our catholic shackles. With all that allegations that are coming out almost every other day, it shouldn't take too long to get to that figure and maybe e...
