Re: US military weapons inscribed with bible references

Yeah, me too. In 2006 there were 30,896 firearm related deaths in the US. That's 0.0135% of the population. I haven't exact corresponding figure for Ireland, but if it was to match the above percentage of population as above it would need to be 414 people in a year. From 1997 to 2008 (11 years) the...

Re: Haiti

I don't even want to start on what I think of people who would leap on a tragedy as an opportunity to try to sell their religion to victims at their most vulnerable. Without wanting to be sensationalist...isn't this exactly what religion does all the time? That's why chaplains are assigned to schoo...

Myers is coming to Ireland...

This maybe old news, but just read that Paul Myers is doing an 'Affront to God tour' round Ireland http://scienceblogs.com/pharyngula/2010 ... our_be.php

The Ireland bit is just at the end there...

Anyone know any more?

Re: Haiti

Pharyngula reports that there are some evangelicals sending some solar powered bibles. The thought that this might block some real aid getting through makes me pretty mad. Bible - or anaesthetic? Or water? Or new house? Nice demonstration of gods love. When the extremes of religion do good it is alw...

Re: Stop A Christian Their Tracks

But God has made Himself categorically clear! I'm SHOUTING Poe now. But just in case...lecreech: when you and all the thousands of different flavours of theist can agree on who this god is and just one of his/her/its characteristics...please do let me know. Categorically clear? Do you know what tha...

Re: Stop A Christian Their Tracks

Okay here goes: 1. Creation proves a creator, just as a painting proves a painter, and a building proves a builder. You aren't for real? Anyone called Poe on lecreech yet? And Mars proves the martians? Or do mars-bars prove the martians? My brain is hurting and I can't work it out. Creation is just...

Re: Will the Pope's expected visit contribute to healing process

Trying to stop the visit of the pope would not be sending out a good image of Atheist Ireland. Protest sure, but stop it? Don't be ridiculous eccles. Exactly: why be like the religious? Let the old boy come - you can be certain the media will go looking for atheists to interview publicly when he's ...

Re: Stop A Christian Their Tracks

Jerry, That's a bit problematic though isn't it? If the bible can't be read reasonably literally then it really is relative and open to multiple intepretations. What is the mechanism for knowing which interpretation is the right one? Surely we can at least expect god to provide an utterly unequivoca...
