Re: Time to ask for Evidence

Fitting - apparently today is "International Skeptics Day". (I saw this on a social networking site, and immediately typed it into Google for confirmation that it was true.) I like that the article doesn't stop at asking for evidence; it is very important while asking for evidence to have ...

Re: And Eve created Eve!!

think this article is written in a measured tone and is not at all worrying or shocking. It's essentially basic scientific research; who knows what the beneficial medical applications may be from the new knowledge and technical know-how developed from such projects? I don't think the article is wor...

Re: Steve Jobs :(

I don't care if he whipped his employees and forced them to repeat mantras praising his genius; I don't smile at people's deaths. Even more so someone I didn't even know whose death has no affect one me whatsoever. It just seems bizarre. If someone were a truly horrible person I might feel a small s...

. I'm afraid I don't know how to link directly to a post, only to a thread! :) Above your post there's a the line where your username is displayed, and the "Post Subject", and then the date and time "Posted". There's a little icon of a piece of paper next to the word "Posted"; if you click that, it...

Re: Really Truly True Believer October 2011

Hard to know where to start on this article: http://www.slate.com/blogs/weigel/2011/10/07/values_voter_summit_perry_s_anti_mormon_endorser.html Rick Perry supporter Robert Jeffress thinks Mormons are a cult, which isn't so bad until you compare it with his outspoken, uncensored belief in Christianit...

Re: Steve Jobs :(

I'm never been a particular Steve Jobs fan. I always preferred PC's to Macs, and have no interest in iPhones or iPads. I have owned an iPod in one form or another continuously for about four years now and iTunes is my favourite way to play music. My positive, negative and apathetic opinions about Ap...

Re: Catholic doctrine - we forget how wacko it can get

Which raises the point that the entire doctrine of original sin and redemption by sacrifice / deicide is based on the truth of the Adam & Eve story. If they didn't exist, what was the point in god coming down to earth to impregnate a virgin in order to give birth to himself in order to enable himse...

Re: Michael Nugent's Irish Times Article

Sir, – Michael Nugent says he rejects gods because they are “ideas invented by humans” (Rite Reason, Opinion, October 4th). But by the same logic his statement should also be rejected because that too is invented by a human. I don't see how anyone will be able to argue with that; not because he's r...

Re: Christening Nightmare

I have to say, the though of a relative taking it upon themselves to baptise a child is not a new one to me, and it certainly bothers me on the basis of principle. However, it does really depend on whether they're going to splash a bit of water on the child, or if they're going to splash a bit of wa...

Re: Catholic doctrine - we forget how wacko it can get

Is this the most recent update? Do I remember that they recently got rid of Limbo, are they bringing it back again? Limbo annoys me because it's basically their best guess to an awkward question. Also, I'm sure I've seen people defending the concept of baptism based on the idea it doesn't wash away ...
