Re: If it turns outGod exists, what will you say when you meet ?

You need exercise faith / non faith (personal opinion) in all types evidence, including scientific. E.g. when was the last time you sat down to re-checked the entire theory of evolution from start to finish, including personally inspecting all of Darwin’s samples, personal notes etc. Same for Einst...

Re: christianity and secularism

That is not my position. There are lots of things I do not believe, that is hardly the same as saying I do not have any beliefs regarding their non existence. My apologies, Scania. It's just that you seemed to have confused secularism and atheism. Non-religion is not atheism. I could argue this poi...

Re: If it turns outGod exists, what will you say when you meet ?

But multiverse theory is still a faith that the enormous extrapolations from tested physics are correct. If the multiverse theory is proved correct, it still won't disprove the existence of God. I never mentioned multiverse theory. Thank you, though at least it gives everyone a chance to see what a...

Re: christianity and secularism

Any belief, including disbelief, can be indoctrinated In my opinon, parents are entitled to raise and educate their children according to their own world view and beliefs, and not anyone elses, including yours. a truly secular state should be officially neutral in matters of religion, supporting ne...

But Ireland will win the world cup after I win the Euromillions and then use the money to pay the transfer-fees for aliens to join the team, it's a sure thing.

Re: If it turns outGod exists, what will you say when you meet ?

Which is merely your belief / assumption versus other beliefs / assumptions. Ok so I used a poor choice of words when I said assume. The cyclic nature of the universe is not a belief or an assumption, though. It is a testable hypothesis which has already been reinforced by verifiable evidence. That...

Re: 10 Things Christians and Atheists Can Agree On ?

The most popular candidate at the moment seems to be non-theism. Actually, I think that's a good idea. I remember watching a debate with Dawkins and AC Grayling recently where Grayling mentioned the term areligious which would also be a possible alternative. Grayling dislikes the term, however, bec...

Re: christianity and secularism

I still think that parents should have the option of a religious etc. school if they wish, that teaches an incorporates their ethos into the normal school day, and receives the same funding as any other school. Is there a way this can be accommodated to everyone’s satisfaction ? Scania, I agree tha...

Re: 10 Things Christians and Atheists Can Agree On ?

I believe that this recent attempt to redefine the word “atheism” as “lack of belief” or “absence of belief” is a mistake. With all due respect Michael, I disagree. The fact is that there is a philosophical position which rejects belief in a deity. Belief is an active process and there has to be a ...
