Re: Bad arguments and how to spot them

I think people are disagreeing with Seamus Murphy's letter for the sake of it here, I don't think anything he said in that letter was factually wrong. Also the following is not a fallacy at all: 1. Religion per se, and/or Christianity, is not hostile to Science 2. Roman Catholicism is a Christian r...

Re: Some footage from the 11th July Meeting

Thanks a million for taking this on, IrishShaman. The audio quality is surprisingly good - were you just recording the ambient sound?

Re: The Life of Galileo, Stephens Green, Dublin

I'm heading in to see this tonight. I just bought a ticket over the phone a moment ago. Anyone else interested?

FXR, thanks for bring this to my attention - I'm sorry I won't be able to meet you on the night you're going.

Ben

Re: Tubridy Show tomorrow morning

Exactly right! I guess my old-school approach to technology balks at the 'wastefulness' of using YouTube for audio only. ("Why use a 32-bit Integer if it'll fit in a single byte?")

Then again, who's ever heard of Houndbite?

Re: Father Ted creators back challenge to blasphemy law

Excellent, excellent, excellent. Oddly, the article doesn't include a soundbite from spokespersons from any of the major religions. Perhaps because none of them actually want this legislation?

Re: End Religious Tax Breaks

Undoubtedly. Can you outline what tax breaks the church(es) here currently get? I'm pretty ignorant on the subject.

Re: Is Religion Infectious? Debate this Wednesday

David McConnell's reasons for according respect to religious belief boiled down to the assertion that because most of the people in the world who hold a religious belief are poor and ill-educated, it would be unfair to deny them the one succour or support that they have in life. how very condescend...

Re: Tubridy Show tomorrow morning

You're welcome! It's my guess that no RTE presenter would dare to even hint that they might lean in any way towards an atheist or agnostic world view - far safer to tacitly support the status quo. Ryan Tubridy I'm sure is no different. At least he doesn't say "God bless", as Marian Finucane or Joe D...
