Irish Catholic forum desends into madness
Since the banning of non believers from Irish Catholic the nutters have come flodding back. Seems they needed the cover of a moderator who would ban anyone who would upset them with logica arguments.
This nut thinks all the evidence for Evolution is a fraud and the Earth is six thousand years old:

Wow. This "Redmond" dude would appear to have been listening to the likes of Kent Hovind and Ken Ham way too much.
What utter nonsense he is spouting about evolution.
At least science is actively looking for answers and doesnt claim to have them all. Religion claims to know where we came from and where we are going based on nothing more than "Well..... science cant explain it yet, so it must have been god".
How contemptable.
He has a profound misunderstanding of the term theory. For a theory to become a theory takes someone to come up with a hypothesis, publish it, subject it to peer review and only then can it be accepted as a valid or invalid theory.
A theory is the highest proof possible without mathamatics that one can attain in a scientific field.
Most theories predict that "If my theory is correct x and y should happen in the future". That is EXACTLY waht happened with the theory of evolution.
Subsequent finds in the fossil record PROVE the theory of evolution is correct.

Do we care?
Inedifix, my kudos. But I don't know why you bother. It ought to be Catholics defending evolution in that thread (that is, if they care to retain a shred of integrity).
PZ Myers was interviewed here by Ian Murphy of BEAST and had this to say about debating Creationists.
OK, um, you debate creationists and these religious types—how do you do it? I mean, because, you know, you can’t be reasonable with these people.
Oh, well, of course you can. You can take an entirely reasonable point of view, which is that they’re morons, and you just make that clear. That’s the challenge of debating these guys, because they really are saying stupid things, and we’re kind of conditioned that when we get into a debate or when we lecture other people, that we’ll treat them seriously and deferentially and address their arguments, and what you quickly find when you talk to these goons is that no, you can’t. (Laughs) If you try to debate them seriously then you end up getting sucked into this vortex of nonsense, and you end up parroting back what they say, you know, while you’re refuting it.
And it’s just pointless. What you’ve just got to do is go right for the throat and point out that they’re incompetent, they don’t know what they’re talking about, they’re making crap up—and make it sting.
So, you think mocking people is important?
Yes. Ridicule is a really important tool. Now, you know, when you get together with somebody one on one and you want to have a serious conversation and you want to actually get a message across to them, ridicule doesn’t work there, of course, but when you’re in a public forum and somebody strolls up and says something utterly ridiculous like, you know, the earth is six-thousand years old, for the benefit of the other people in the audience, you cannot just sit there and take that at face value. You have to point out that that contradicts all of science, there’s no evidence for it—

The Vatican: Evolution is fine

I'm barred from their forum but in the case of a Catholic all you have to do is put the Vaticans stance on the subject to them and let them fight the Pope.

Human communication is a very rickety rope bridge between minds. Its too narrow to allow but a few thoughts to cross at a time. Many are lost in the chasms of noise, suspicion, misinterpretation and shooting the message through dislike of the messenger.

to wordwide conspiracy by the lunatic fringe of the animal lobby...As a Catholic who spent 35 years as a mink-farmer I object to propagandathat portrays my career as one of a sadist perpetrating cruelties onanimals,
To whole tribes in the "northern" forests descending into extinction...these people are all part of a worldwide campaign to stop alluses of animals by mankind no matter the kind.
To a delusional version of history....Few will know ofthe fate of the indigenous peoples of the northern forests who had to selltheir animal occupied forests for timber and mining when unable to selltheir surplus furs, even when foot-traps were banned. Unable to survive incities they simply died out riddled with alcoholism etc.
To self congratulations....Within Christian thought animals do nothave ‘rights’, only man has ‘rights’ given by God to Adam. Animals were puton earth for man’s use and benefit, this means for food, clothing, forwork, as companions etc. Man however has responsibilities in this field, and society as a whole has formulated the parameters, accepted by theChurch throughout two thousand years.
Now nobody can say I did not play my part in expanding this forum's subject matter. Look forward to the anti's hysterics.

I notice the creationist has already used the "But evolution doesnt explain how life STARTED" argument.
You know you have them beaten when they open their mouth and this falls out. They are essentially trying to show evolution is wrong because it doesnt prove something that has nothing to do with evolution.
If you have to attack a point by attacking the issues that the point has nothing to do with then you have lost before you have even begun.

You can't argue with nutters like that. He's spouting falsified propaganda a mile a minute, and all the Catholics can do in their terror of 'offending' someone of Faith is compliment him and flatter him for making an 'interesting' point.
The wackaloon actually says he is a geocentrist... ie the sun orbits the earth ... and no-one has called the men in white coats to take him back to his padded cell yet. I'm only surprised that he hasn't endorsed Flat-Earth Theory too while he was at it.
Fascinating that the only person with the guts to call him on this lunacy is an atheist.
The Catholics all cower in the background 'respecting' his faith while he makes absolute fools of them all.

And then they banned me for doing it. I love people like the catholic loony who thinks the Earth is six thousand years old. You can dance them around in circles and lead them into blind alleys. Theyr'e just pure entertainment......Ygern wrote:

Indifix invited him over here but I doubt if he'll come.
Quote Redmond on Irish Catholic:
Since that woman became editor of the Irish Times she has published only ONE of my 101 letters on many subjects. I am surprised one more slipped through. That is why forums such as this one are priceless, censorship eliminated.
I invited the french guy but he replied:
going to atheits.ie would be like sending a lamb in a cage full of starving tigers. Sorry no. Maybe if I want to become kind of "virtual" martyr.........
