Hi guys,

Just wanted to say that I formally applied to defect from the Catholic Church using the Count Me Out Declaration of Defction form, which I got my solicitor to witness for me. Ah yes, I wanted this to be as official as possible!

I live in Dublin and so I got a prompt letter back from a guy calling himself Reverend Fintan Gavin from The Chancellory Office inviting me to come and have a chat with him to discuss the matter. I wrote back to him, by snail mail, with my signature (I'm familiar with legal matters, so I'm aware of the significance of these things) politely declining his kind offer: I was afraid I might be tempted to torch the place, er, Palace!

To Paul @ CountMeOut: I was surprised (shocked, actually) to learn from your comment here (of July 09) to learn that the Catholic Church do not keep statistics of those of us who formally defect from their ( ) institution. Surely that's illegal? I have no problem sending you and your group all the correspondence relating to my defection from the Catholic Church. I'll email you about that before the week is out.

One last thing, I too thought that my having stopped going to Mass etc for the past 40 or so years that I simply was not longer a Roman Catholic anymore. But when I heared about the Count Me Out people in the Irish media, I realised I'd better actually do something about it. So I did :D

The sad thing is, so many (most it seems to me) Irish people are socialised into a RC mindset that is difficult, if not impossible, for them to shake off. They may be so-called lapsed Catholics, but their fundamental mentality is not that much different than their thoroughly catholicised parents

And, for anyone that read the Examiner last week you will know that they keep NO STATS on the numbers defecting!
No STATS??? For an organisation that has traditionally meticulously kept good book-keeping records, this is truly amazing! Then again, we (who can think for ourselves) know that the RC hierarchy are not in the least interested in anyone who does not share their Divine Right worldview. The really do believe themselves to be Super-Human gods, above the rest of Humanity. Which makes me think they're not really humans at all

A little condescending, you say? After listening to that guy (Ronnie O'Byrne, the interviewer) he sounds like he might be a paedophile... he reminded me of a "slimy" ultra-friendly neighbour of ours when I was a child, who, as it turned out, was a paedophile, all throughout his 50 years as a father and grandfather!

Hi Peter, I'm a real person alright! I even have a bank account, though I keep most of my money in a safe under the basement floor - I'm much smarter than Bertie

The Irish (RC) Establishment are scared of people (women, that is) like me. That's why they leave me alone

Have a Nice Day, Paul :)

What has Roman Catholicism got to do with Christianity? According to their own 2,000 year old history, they are the ones who nailed Jesus Christ to a crucifix and tortured him to death. Its like a rapist or paedophile claiming his victims are his adoring fans. FFS, what kind of mind-fuck is that :!:

Who did you get to sign your defection form as a witness?

My parents and my wife don't want to sign it! Thinking of going to the local priest?

thanks,
John
your wife won't even witness the document?

Yep! Neither will my parents. Which I am fine with by the way - if it doesn't sit well with them, I'm not forcing it.

However I got a copy of my baptism cert from my Mam at the weekend - she has no problem with me defecting, just doesn't want to be involved in the process.

witnessing is not exactly condoning, does she not believe your of sound mind etc ? :)

Probably not!

On the other point from Beebub, I got my baptism cert so I can include a photocopy to make my records easier to find - I thought that was the way to do it?

Thanks,
John

Congratulations Alexis – you are now as nature made you originally.
The church complains of persecution when it's not allowed to persecute.

No, they officially always blamed the Jews for the crucification of Christ :P

It would have been bad strategy by St Paul and consorts to blame Romans, cause he wanted so badly to convert them to . . . Roman Catholicism :D

And Roman Catholics are not Romans. There are no old Romans around anymore :!:
