I despair that people in Ireland today can't give 45 minutes a week to worship Jesus. Don't they realise that he died on the cross to save us?

It does make you think though. If people REALLY believed this stuff, if they REALLY think that how they act in this life affects how their eternal next life will be, is this really how they would act.

I ask myself this all the time. If I were to actually believe this stuff, the way I live my life would be so entirely different to the way it is now that I would barely recognise myself.

Yet these people keep living their life, walking past beggars on the street, doing speed masses, buying CDs ripping them and then returning them to the shop (the common action of one of the “devout” Catholics in my extended family) and more.

It is for these reasons I was so moved by Dennett’s “Belief in belief” talks.

No, they would act like fundamentalists. They would adhere to the strictest, most literal interpretation of whichever holy book they devoutly believed in, they would kill and die in the name of their god(s) and they would never ever risk a moment of their future eternal happiness on some trifling earthly pleasure.
Fundamentalists are simply people who really believe what moderate religious people pretend to believe.

At the speed mass you receive (in resemblance to a coffe to go) a holy eucharist to go

The host comes wrapped in a napkin and the wine is in an espresso cup, with a lid so you don't spill any on yourself while you're running for the bus

I found this hilarious. It really does paint the CCL as a business.

Take three hosts for the price of one but if you would leave an adequate tip, for the bishop wants to buy some child porn
