As Tom says, there are plenty of hints that Book was once something rather more cold-blooded and sinister, perhaps like Jubal Early or perhaps more like the utterly ruthless Alliance operative from the movie. The episode "Safe" also hints that he is or was much more than just a priest, when his ID card gets him no-questions-asked VIP medical treatment on an Alliance ship. In fact: this is due out in a few days

The following statement was issued by the Syfy channel on why they cancelled Caprica

Why aren’t you making another season of Caprica?
We would have loved to but the fact is, there have not been enough viewers to support another season. We can only afford to make shows if enough people watch them.

Isn’t that your fault for not marketing it properly?
Through marketing, enough viewers sampled Caprica to make it a success, but many of those didn’t come back for further episodes.

Did you consider DVR-use and online viewership when looking at its ratings?
DVR and online/digital viewership data were included in the decision making process. Overall, the resulting figures did not contribute significantly to the audience totals.

Isn’t that because you moved it from Friday to Tuesday?
It was not successful on Fridays so we moved it to Tuesdays (our most successful night) in an attempt to introduce it to new viewers.

Didn’t the hiatus between the first halves of the season kill the show’s momentum?
No, we regularly split seasons of our shows across the year (the Stargate franchise for example). Viewership after the hiatus continued to decline with each episode.

Did you cancel Caprica so you could make Blood & Chrome?
No, we were planning to produce the Blood & Chrome pilot even if Caprica remained on the air. We wish Caprica had done well enough so we could have both on the air.

Why are you showing the last 5 episodes next year instead of this year?
Given Caprica’s performance in this competitive time, we opted to move it back to 2011 as originally planned. We know it’s not an ideal scenario but the episodes will air.

We recognize your passion and contributions to this page; we will ensure that you are the first to know when the remaining 5 episodes are set to air. Once we have confirmed our schedule, the news will be posted here first.

ScyFy stream a lot of their shows on the web so you can try an episode or two for size if you want.

Liking Supernatural a lot as well - Angels are as much of the bad guys as the demons.

Pretty good analysis of how good and daring Caprica was and just why it was cancelled here

A Canadian channel is showing the last 5 episodes. Episode 16 is up on Demonoid now.

This is going from bad to worse, first Firefly, then Caprica and now Stargate Universe.

Yes folks, it was announced last month that the SyFy Channel will not be giving the series a third series, and the remaining 10 episodes of season 2 will be shown in the spring.

I wonder if I stopped getting hooked on sci-fi shows would the stop cancelling them :?

I was looking up "Sliders" Fox really killed that one off, first started in Canada, then 3rd season went to LA with dire story lines, 4&5 went to sci-fi but still with the Fox LA producer.

The syfy channel is now going to show wrestling and no longer classes it self as just a science fiction channel :( back when they started to show horror movies I dropped sky for Free to Air and decided to use the saved €200+ to buy boxsets.

Yep, the Kromags were a stupid way to try and boost the ratings for the show...
