This completely passed me by but BBC4 made a once off of a loosely adapted version of Douglas Adams book “Dirk Gently’s holistic detective agency” last month – It’s quite good (Well I thought so) if you’re not a purest.

(Not really Sci-Fi but Douglas Adams is hard to classify)

Along with each episode, Dr. Michio Kaku will give commentary about the real-life science behind the science fiction of the show

I cannot recommend Firefly highly enough.
Plus writer / director Joss Whedon is an atheist so you won't get any woo, at least not without fairly scathing commentary on it.

Here's a funny clip :
Castle: "Space Cowboy" (Firefly/Serenity)
Castle: "Space Cowboy" (Firefly/Serenity)
Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) dresses up in his Mal Reynolds costume for Halloween. Or rather, a "space cowboy" in a brown trenchcoat that looks suspiciously like those the Browncoats wore in Firefly and Serenity.

Took a chance and got the first boxset of Star Trek Enterprise, now on disc 2, really enjoying it to my surprise. Like the story-lines and tech, some dodgy acting, but so far so good.
