Artistic License

Post by paolovf » Fri Aug 24, 2012 11:02 am

I'm not sure if any of you have seen this in the news recently but an elderly Spanish parishioner tried to restore a fresco in her local church: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19349921

Apparently the painting, of the legendary Jesus Christ, has been there for >100 years. For the sake of art, it's unfortunate that she destroyed the original painting so capriciously but I have to admit, I couldn't help but laugh at the priest's reaction, "The once-dignified portrait now resembles a crayon sketch of a very hairy monkey in an ill-fitting tunic".

Maybe the fundies will interpret that as a divine endorsement of evolution?
