Real pictures in avatars

Post by CatHerder » Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:49 pm

Very few of us post a real picture on our avatars.

Is this because we don't want to reveal our true identities, for fear of being exposed as atheist.

Is it because you are so good looking that it will attract unnecessary attention?

Is it just a general "safety on the net" issue?

Cant find a picture that doesn't make you look like a convict?

Stole the idea for this post from this thread

That's me on the right, taken last summer when my brother came to visit.
I have no problem posting my photo, but I don't think you want to my mug every time I make a post.

Unfortunately I look exactly like” Chloe O’Brien from 24” scowl and all – so if I post a picture it would put people off. However I do like to know what people look like and I respect it if they decide to go public.

I have my real life picture up..although I did cut my hair recently. Only reason I put that one up is because I couldn't think of a good atheist one that someone else didn't already have.
I was going to steal that one off richarddawkins.net with the jesus on the cross saying "BRB" and mary underneath saying "LOL" but I thought that might be a bit cheeky..

Human communication is a very rickety rope bridge between minds. Its too narrow to allow but a few thoughts to cross at a time. Many are lost in the chasms of noise, suspicion, misinterpretation and shooting the message through dislike of the messenger.
