Anybody know what's happened to the Hitch?

Post by Ygern » Tue Jun 29, 2010 8:34 pm

A rumour has been whispered around the blogosphere in the last few days - I say a whisper because there seems to be precious little information about it.

Christopher Hitchens has canceled all his upcoming appearances and the only official reason cited seems to be something "personal" that must be attended to. It must be pretty serious given that he is promoting his memoir Hitch-22 at the moment.

I hope he and his family are safe.

Ufffffff! I've heard he's given up the drink and the fags - assuming he's got the red card from his doctor.

I Hope he's OK

He quit cigarettes a couple years ago. Then he started again.

Like Mark Twain said: Quitting smoking is easy. I've done it myself a hundred times.

An Update from Christopher Hitchens

I have been advised by my physician that I must undergo a course of chemotherapy on my esophagus. This advice seems persuasive to me. I regret having had to cancel so many engagements at such short notice.

A scarily frank description of his condition.
