Maybe the Catholic women of Ireland will finally realise how they are regarded by this evil crowd.

Wives and mothers of Ireland covered up abuse says Wexford Priest
Exposure of abuse has opened ‘door to hell’.
A Wexford priest has said that Irish society does not want to hear the politically incorrect truth about child sexual abuse in Ireland which is that “there is another category of people that will match the failure of the bishops, and probably surpass it; the wives and mothers of Ireland, not exclusively wives and mothers but far too many who failed miserably to deal with the abuse of their children by other family members.”
Writing in this week’s Irish Catholic newspaper, Fr Paddy Banville of Ferns Diocese says a significant percentage of the population are implicated in the cover-up of abuse.

I heard the editor on the radio (newatalk?) The opinion of the interviewer was that this would push people further away from the church, the editor seemed to agree.

Ugh. While I've personally seen the consequences of families (both male and female members, I might add) covering up sexual abuse, and it's truly horrible, I believe current situation is a result of the fact the Irish population having changed (or begun to change) their attitude towards child abuse.

I don't see how they can blame "wives and mothers" for crimes committed by the Church. Especially with the power the Church wields, internationally and in society - anyone who didn't come forward was probably justifiably frightened that people wouldn't believe them. Even now that it's clear this was not one priest or one Church or one family, the church is still running a smear campaign to take the heat of themselves.

Hopefully this is true, but some people will still say close. After all, this is the Church doing what they're best at: making people feel guilty.

I think the reason people kept quiet before was not that they thought child abuse was fine, but rather that they were so crushed under the weight of the church's power structure, they were paralysed to act in a truly moral fashion. When the church holds a monopoly on morality, all bets are off.

There are in fact plenty of terribly sad stories of people who were either the victims or witnesses of abuse, who did come forward, but who were shunned and ostracised by their own communities as result. Even the garda siochana would close ranks on the whistleblowers to protect the reputation of the priests, who were their brothers and their sons.

"Ferns priest blames women for abuse." My blood would be boiling if it were physically possible. They're blaming the very victims for being complicit in their own torture, when the balance of power was always so heavily weighted against them that they never had a chance.
