U.N. trying to pass law criminalizing defamation of religion

I'm speechless.
If this goes ahead in any way, I would like to think that some kind of protest could be organized to show that this is simply unacceptable. Just a thought.

p.s. here is the petition to sign if you are opposed to this:

Thank you for bringing this to more open attention.

Action must be taken!
This cannot happen or even be mentioned as a joke.

This really is outrageous. But so few people really seem to know this is happening. I have been going through whatever newspapers I can get my hands on, and I have seen nothing about this, except Mr Haari's article in The Independent. It's almost like most journalist's don't care. Please tell me some papers have run stories.

I'm glad people are responding to this because I thought because of the lack of coverage that I was just making a big deal out of nothing. But yeah you're right DurErnil, it's as if journalists don't care. I think it might be a case that people see it but this being Ireland, and a lot of people still in the 1950's Catholic "let's-just-ignore-the-huge-gaping-hole" outlook, if you'll excuse the inarticulation of that phrase, people are just happy to let something like this go ahead. Unfortunately, there are a lot of ignorant people in the world. A lot of those people are religious. A lot of those people are probably journalists, and they might be happy to let something like this slip in and protect their little nests of delusion. This might be just my paranoia, but this whole thing really terrifies me.
If I was anymore paranoid I would suggest a dominionist ploy at work here.. I'm all for protesting if necessary against this, I know some countries already have like France, I hope other people feel the same.
*sorry for the rant*

For the sake of keeping it all in one thread:

The articulate CH on the subject with Lou Dobbs

Comments & cartoons on the Slate article on RD.net Note: it's worth clicking on the so-called "Alternate Comment" thread ...

And always worth re-watching: CH on Freedom of speech and why it matters (in my opinion, one of his best speeches)

Is there anyway to actually stop it passing, aside from the obvious more "yes" votes than "no"?
