John Waters belittles abuse scandal

Post by andrew » Fri Feb 05, 2010 10:42 am

John Waters has really nailed his colours to the mast regarding the child rape by preists in his country in today's Irish Times. I won't paste the whole article, which is a meandering review of the film 'The Road' but he drops in a sneering throw away comment towards the end: ..."The day before I saw it, having foolishly forgotten that the Irish media is interested only in stories of State abuses more than a half-century old, I had again made the mistake of raising the question of our society’s treatment of fathers and children on a radio programme."

Two things, firstly he seems to believe all the abuse happened a generation ago and secondly, the fact that it happened so long ago the state should be focusing it's attention elesewhere and not on the crimes commited by his beloved catholic church. I can't believe he's allowed to publish this stuff.
