From today's IT: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/bre ... king5.html
A catholic priest was involved in bombings which killed 9 people in the early 70's. Did he look around and say "No, kids just don't turn me on, no matter how hard I try...I might give the oul bombing a go instead"

There was of course no cover-up by the church (http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/bre ... ing31.html) - they just did what they always did and moved him to a different parish! All the way from Derry to Donegal in fact, which must have been a real inconvenience for him.

Admittedly the RUC were bizarrely involved in keeping it all quiet too. It all beggars belief...

The British N.I office was also involved in the cover up, reportedly their collective thinking was that the arrest of a priest would cause civil disturbances which may have resulted in the loss of even more life.

I remember the uproar over the refusal to extradite Fr Patrick Ryan to the UK in the late 80s. In fairness to the Irish government at the time, the British made such a ham fisted effort in that extradition case it would've been impossible for Ryan to get anything approaching a fair trial.
