Skeptics in the Pub

Dear Skeptics,
As you may know Skeptics in the Pub is not a new idea and was started by Dr Scott Campbell in 1999 for all those interested in the bizarre and the rational approach to extraordinary claims. Basically a guest lecturer will be brought in every month to speak on a specific topic, i.e. Homeopathy, Faith healing, Ghosts, Magick, Religion, Astrology, Evolution denial, Numerology, Conspiracy theories, Holocaust denial, Moon landing denial, UFO's, etc.
We currently have a venue in Galway city to host the events, hopefully once every month, or possibly every two depending on numbers. We are currently in the process of feeling out the kind of numbers we could expect to show up at an event like this, we would probably need in the region of thirty or forty to make it viable.
As well as being able to listen to whomever is lecturing this would provide a great forum for those of a rational and inquiring mind to get together and share both ideas and a few beers.
I would ask you to post whether this would appeal to you and please be as honest as possible as to whether you would be sure to turn up, turn up occasionally, would not be interested or whether the LOCATION simply does not suit as we are aware this would prove a genuine bar to a lot of people. I would also ask you to specify what day of the week would prove most suitable to you.

Thanking You,
Skeptics in the Pub, Galway.

Sounds like it could be fun. Unfortunately, I live on the other side of the country but I reckon a Thursday evening would be a viable slot. Lots of students go out on a Thursday night (bus/train home on Fri for the weekend) and Thursday wouldnt really eat into the weekend plans of people who live in the area too much.

I don't believe they do but I'm not so sure.
But I'd definitely go.

Thurs wouldnt work for me. I'd need the day to travel and im in college Thursday nights. Saturday would be better. I could only commit to a 'maybe' because im in Dublin but it sounds great and i'd love to go. I would probably go to see topics which particularly interest me rather than saying i'd definitely attend each one.

Fantastic, but old? Was this ever followed up on? It's time to start this idea, and I'm being prodded. Are people still interested? Is this going on somewhere in town and I just don't know about it?

Let me know! I have started a provisional facebook page for a group.... if this is doubling up, I'll close it down!

There is an NUIG Skeptics. And a Dublin Skeptics. And A Belfast Skeptics. And a Cork Skeptics.

Which one are you looking for?

Yesum, I know. Well, the thread was started about a SITP Galway so I was really looking for Rowanth or anyone else in the Galway region that aren't the *awesome* NUIG Skeptics. Getting a thing in place for the non-student skeptics. And trying to make sure I'm not duplicating someone else's better work.

Still looking to hear from... well, anyone at all! :)
