I will be talking about atheism and blasphemy with Sean Moncrieff between 3.30 and 4 today on http://www.newstalk.ie/

Moncrieff seemed to find it difficult to accept that morality might be purely biological in origin, and not a top-down gift from some Christian supernatural entity.

But on the whole it was a very interesting discussion on the evolution of morality and literal vs metaphorical interpretation of religious stories.

"Essentially most Irish Catholics are practically Protestants... and most Irish Protestants are practically atheists..."
If that doesn't get you into hell, nothing will. :)

Just caught it before the final 15 minutes, sounded like a good interview.

Anyone got the rest of it or know if it'll be uploaded to a "later listening" type of thing on the site? I only managed to record from the last advert break onwards.

Michael, great interview, must be one of the best quotes I've heard, Sean sounded like he chocked with laughter :

The thing is it made me think of how many 'catholics' I know that attend ccl mass yet being divorced and also believing priest should be allowed to marry, appart from the virgin-Mary thing, thier basically Protestant without even realising it, can't wait to try it out on them.

Ok, well I got most of the audio captured there through Audacity and ran through it before saving...

I saved it directly from their web player where you could pick part 1/2/3 from yesterday... The entire interview with Michael is from about 35 minutes on part 2, however it only gets up to the part about "what do atheists do for funerals?" and then when Michael goes to answer it cuts off...

I do remember from yesterday that he went on to talk about someone who had to be buried specially in Derry (I think that was it), but the final few minutes which include that are not available... part three just goes directly into the next portion of the show...

EDIT -

Ok well I uploaded what I had for whoever wanted it. It saves skipping through the various parts of the web player they have as well on their website.

Even though the last 2 minute of the interview seemingly disappeared from the webplayer version I added in information in the sidebar as well as annotations indicating the story that was covered (the Donegal woman being buried in LondonDerry) as well as a link to the article in the Irish Times.
