Article about atheism in today's Irish Times, Tues 19 Oct

Post by MichaelNugent » Tue Oct 19, 2010 3:27 am

Here is an article I have written for today's Irish Times.

Give us a state that's not religious nor atheist, but secular

In brief, it argues that atheism provides a better model of reality, and a better basis for morality, than believing in gods; that atheists can enjoy the benefits that many people get from religion, without the harmful effects; and that the State should be secular, promoting neither religion nor atheism.

It ends by asking people to join Atheist Ireland. If you can link to it in blog posts, tweets, facebook etc., it may attract some further interest about Atheist Ireland and what we are trying to do.

The letters page should be interesting over the next couple of days :D

Friday and there's still no scathing replies in the letter pages?
What!? Have I missed anything?
I'm going to start a revolution... er... if that's ok with everyone?
