I will be debating the topic that religion does more harm than good at the TCD Philosophical Society this Thursday at 7.30 pm.

The opposing speakers will include Dr Andrew Pierce of the Irish School of Ecumenics and Br Anthony Keane of Glenstal Abbey.

Afterwards I will be free to discuss the proposed atheist society in TCD with any members who want to discuss it.

Is this open to the public? Was planning on going to see a movie after work, but think this could be better.

And best of luck Michael.

Good debate tonight, didn't think the religious side had much to add, of course good things come out of religion, but atheists can also achieve any of these things without religion. Whereas religion corrupts morality by telling us certain things are the word of god and it's followers often act imorrally because of this, as can be seen in Africa where the Pope advised against condom use, suicide bombers, homophobia, sexism, religious wars, the list goes on... Also when you think about it, if these religions are all bullshit, then they themselves are deceiving their followers (often sick, poor or elderly), taking from them their much needed money with their pilgrimages to lourdes and such places, church donations, etc.

The vote at the end was surreal. It was based on which side shouted louder not on the number of votes so it almost guaranteed the second side to vote would win. It seems we lost by decibels...

Either way we had a meeting of the new TCD Atheist Soc afterwards and got a provisional committee formed, thanks to Hector.

That was indeed the case along with me owing a pint to Michael. Thanks very much for the Guinness.

AGM next week. I'll be expecting everyone bar Dan (who has a lecture) to attend. The expectation is that we will function as a society until we get college recognition which will lend credence to our application. Many good suggestions were put forward which will be discussed at the AGM.

Also, Ciaran and Dugges were much older than I was expecting. :) It was pretty cool to meet all of you guys. All the input as to what changes from the original application need to be made have been taken onboard by myself.
