Debate on existence of God, UCD, 7pm this Wednesday

Post by MichaelNugent » Tue Jan 25, 2011 1:50 am

I will be debating the existence of God at the UCD Literary and Historical Society 7pm this Wednesday, 26 Jan.

Also speaking will be Professor Gerard Casey, Paul Mullins from the Irish Bible Institute and Rita Boland from the HAI.

It's on in the Newman Building (Arts Block) on the Belfied campus.

Just back from the debate, had to leave at 8:40 at risk of being clamped but I think I saw the most of it. Had to leave before the voting though. :(

Was a good debate (of sorts). Had to overcome some irritation towards the two girls speaking against the motion for their "cause it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside" arguments, but I thought the brilliant lady from the Humanist Association did us proud with that matter. The final speaker was also annoying as his definition of god was merely a deistic supposed entity that he just happens to label god. He gave no real theistic argument.

And my sympathies to you Michael for having that gentleman sitting behind you who couldn't keep his mouth closed. I don't know if its an Irish phenomenon or it happens elsewhere, but I always find someone like him in any audience.

Good job!
