http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ire ... 35921.htmlThey have just been at the workshop on relationships given by a lay Christian, Pat Reynolds. Reynolds is Glaswegian, funny, engaging and deeply sceptical about the reliability of both the condom and the contraceptive pill, issuing several statistics on safety and health risks along with the story of his life as a single lad prior to meeting his wife in Knock five years ago. His talk is deeply personal: “We have three beautiful children with us and one in heaven.” And while nothing is hammered home, his talk subtly nudges listeners towards thinking about attitudes towards contraception and sex.
“The relationship yoke, my friends would have enjoyed that,” Tania says. “I am 16 now and I was thinking of going on the pill and wouldn’t touch it after that. No point in getting the pill if it is going to kill you.”

Contraception "education" at the Knock Summer Festival

“God and Country are an unbeatable team; they break all records for oppression and bloodshed” Luis Buñuel. Quoted in The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins.

I have been reading about the digestive system recently and the pill has come up a few times in regard to its harmful side effects.
I do think sexual education in this country could be better and I know there are a lot of people taking the pill that don't fully understand its influence on the body.
I didn't know it could kill you though, as Tanya points out.

What pisses me off about this brigade is that they're not being even remotely honest nor do they have the courage of their convictions. Contraception is wrong because god says so. Sexual intercourse is for pro-creation, therefore the use of a condom is a sin. Why can't they just leave it at that? That's the reason why the catholic church is against contraception. The rest of their blather about side effects and the possibility that condoms aren't 100% fool proof is a side show. They're looking for other reasons to scare people into not using them to satisfy themselves that they're doing the right thing for the greater good because god will become angry if you use a johnny.

The Catholic Church "teaching" about contraception should almost be under Humour
Makes me thing off this joke I heard:
Makes me thing off this joke I heard:
Three nuns were talking. The first nun said, "I was cleaning the father's room the other day and do you know what I found? A bunch of pornographic magazines!" "What did you do?" the other nuns asked. "Well, of course I threw them all in the trash." The second nun said, "Well, I can top that. I was in the father's room putting away the laundry and I found a bunch of condoms." "Oh my," gasped the other nuns. "What did you do?" they asked. "I poked holes in all of them," she replied. The third nun said, "Oh shit."

These people really should keep up with their leader. Pope Benny has already changed his tune on condoms:

I think this is something the bishops haven't been too keen on passing along to their Irish congregations. They're caught between The Rock and a hard place. They've been banging on about how wrong condoms are for so long now, they can't be seen to go limp on the issue.

As yet I have not found a single case of a terrestrial animal which fertilises itself.

Came to post about this, and discovered that there was already a thread. I think that lies of omission are as bad as any, and to discuss the risks of the Pill without context is basically lying. I was writing a blog about it and did some research, and it seems that this is actually a common enough tactic - displaying all the risks of the Pill without any relative risk or percentage information, lying about the effectiveness of natural family planning, etc.
Nothing in life comes without risks, but if you only ever considered the risk information, out of context, without the balancing factors of the potential gain, you'd never leave the house! I feel bad for the kids who have left there thinking that the Pill is lethal, and that they're making an informed decision...
