More creationist rubbish

Post by chemicals » Tue Nov 03, 2009 3:33 pm

More creationism /intellegent design - the usual oud half assed rubbish
including my all time favourite

"Many competent scientists – though admittedly not a majority in the present day – are convinced that the Biblical account of creation is true and compatible with science. Great scientists in history – Galileo, Kepler, Newton, Ray, Boyle, Faraday, Joule, Kelvin, &c – were convinced creationists"

:) Do you like torturing yourself?

In case there is anyone wondering about the claim about "historical" scientists - creationism would have been the default position for most Western European scientists until Darwin's theory of evolution was published and became accepted as more and more evidence was found.
So while there claim about the likes of Galileo is technically true it is also irrelevant.

Many scientists contemporary to Darwin were sceptical of his theory of evolution while it was still a new and revolutionary idea, as more and more evidence supported the theory, more and more scientists were convinced by its overwhelming abundance and accepted the theory.

Anytime a person explains how many scientists believed in whatever . . God, creationism etc.

I basically say what Ygern just said.

I usually draw an allegory that I'm a better fighter than an entire Roman legion as all I would need is an assault rifle, ammo and loads of kevlar.

When they correct me that such technology didn't exist then and that I am not really a better fighter but rather that I can utilise contemporary weaponry that they don't have. I then explain the same is true of knowledge.

Am I a better scientist or more knowledgeable than Galileo? Not a chance however I have access to knowledge that he didn't and I'd be foolish not to take advantage to enlighten myself where he couldn't.
