Creationism in Ireland

Post by Ter » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:50 pm

Rather than hijack a 'Hovind' thread, I'll start a new thread on the subject on the subject of creationism in Ireland. For years I explained the creationism phenomenon away with the phrase "only in America", but unfortunately it's here too. If anyone has any other information in this regard please add. I'm sure your all aware of the situation regarding creationism in the North so I'll just list organisations active in the Republic.

1. In Six Days http://www.in6days.ie/

As much as this one shocked me when I discovered it it's just a personal website and it's just a re-hash of other creationist sites. Interesting the owner does ask people to contribute to this debate on his contact page, perhaps I will some time.

2. Immanuel Church Dublin http://www.immanuelchurchdublin.org/

Looks innocent at first glance but if you dig a little you'll find such gems as an exceptionally long sermon (in streaming audio) about Darwinism :!: and how Darwin was wrong. http://my.ekklesia360.com/Clients/media ... sia360.com

Also check out the two part article "Why Atheism Fails to Offer a Satisfactory Response"
Part 1: http://www.immanuelchurchdublin.org/art ... se-part-i/
Part 2: http://www.immanuelchurchdublin.org/art ... e-part-ii/

Note that Immanuel Church is a part of Irish Church Missions http://www.icm-online.ie/introduction.html

3. Creation Ministries International http://creation.com

From this calendar page http://creation.com/uk-events-calendar you can see that they are more established in the North but are screening their anti-science propoganda in the Republic also.

4. Answers in Genesis http://www.answersingenesis.org

Getting their teeth into the North moreso, but their founder Ken Ham is doing seminars in the Republic also.

5. Jehovah's Witnesses http://www.watchtower.org/

Slightly unusual in that they are old earth creationists. I've actually just gotten hold of copies of there two latest 'hot off the presses' booklets "The Origin Of Life: Five Questions Worth Asking" and "Was Lfe Created?".

6. 4you http://www.4you.ie

Check out the page here http://www.4you.ie/pages/questions/science.html when I see how they abuse the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics I almost start to weep.

Again if anyone knows of any others please let me know.

The movement in The republic has been quite small I think, though you did show me a couple of links there I have not seen yet.

I was aware not SO long ago of a series of talks in Lucan under the title "Evolution: A fairy tale for adults".

However it is worth watching our borders as much as watching our home soil. The DUP have really brought creationism to the fore of their message of late up the north and that is a little close to home for my comfort zone.

Agreed it has been small. Really it's the "Scientists tell us (insert opposite of what science tells us here)" that annoys me. I have a great respect (some might say love) of science and might be guitly of taking this nonsense a little personally. I'll be keeping my eye on them  .

+1, I just can't help feeling offended by this sort of stupidity. I'll be watching them too. We could organise shifts... :)

She's a Rottweiler cross, probobly crossed with a German Shepard by all accounts, she looks more Rottie but is more German Shepard coloured. Have a little Tri-Colour Collie cross too. I post a pic or two in the pet pics thread :D .
