God, they're being really coy about it! I guess they haven't quite reached consensus yet.

It could be a number of things:
-The Higgs boson, it's one of the main things they are looking for.
-Not the Higgs, but whatever else does its job in the standard model of particle physics.
-Something else.

The quote "some of the particles are intimately linked in a way not seen before in proton collisions" doesn't immediately suggest to me that they are talking about the Higgs though. http://public.web.cern.ch/public/
