Genetic ignorance at RTE

This is a link to an RTE news item today where the interviewer, and the writers of the news, obviously believe in the inheritance of acquired characteristics.
I love Prof Turner's response when the question - that fat men can cause their babies to be born fat - is put to him twice. A resounding "no".
Was it Lanmarck that used to cut the tails off mice to see if the offspring would be born without tails?
This is what happens when you have a population educated in creation and ignorant of evolution.

I'm guessing you were listening to a different broadcast to that of the link you provided.

There was nothing in the linked news broadcast that suggested any Lamarckian influence. All they reported on was the correlation. Nothing was said about Causation and the word 'genetic' was not used once.

It stands to reason that parents who are ignorant of the basic aspects of diet and nutrition (or who don't care much about these things) would be overweight themselves and raise overweight children does it not?

I'm speaking as a fat bastard myself here of course
"The fact of your own existence is the most astonishing fact you will ever have to face. Don’t you ever get used to it." - Richard Dawkins... being shrill and offensive again I suppose.

The item was included in the 'News' because the writers thought that being fat at the time of conception could then be inherited. I can't find the clip but I think it was so highlighted earlier in the bulletini. When the good prof shot this down in the first sentence, the item then slid into insignificance.
The references to Lamarck were my own.
