Name:
The group would prefer the word 'Atheist' in the title, but there is some doubt as to what will be allowed (socs must give indication of their general philosophy/aims from the title). Options discussed were UCC Atheists, and or maybe UCC Atheists, Secularists & Sceptics or some variant of this to make it more inclusive.
Activities:
- Host DVD evenings showing movies or programmes
- invite guest speakers to talk on specific subjects. Aoife suggested that she might be able to get someone from Educate Together.
- hold debates
- organise trips to national conferences of AI / HAI / Irish Skeptics, etc.
- generally represent the concerns and views of non-believers on campus in an organised and coherent fashion
Immediate action:
- get a plug in UCC Express (Sean knows someone involved) - can have full article/interview once society is up and running to advertise AGM
- get 100 required signatories and 100 euro together (get start up grant of 400 euro back once set up) - plan to take signatures next week (Tuesday and Wednesday)
- get publicity for group: could be mentioned on the Atheist Bus page on Facebook, UCC forums etc
- set up subforum for Student Societies on atheist.ie

There's only one way we must go... and it's not backwards...

Do we really want people referring to us as the ASS soc?

We could always go with “UCC Atheist Cultural Society” if we wanted to be a bit tongue-in-cheek about it.

Hey, I said these were the minutes - I don't think anyone actually wants to go with UCC ASS, but I did find it funny.Mr. Mercurial wrote:adamd164 wrote:... or maybe UCC Atheists, Secularists & Sceptics or some variant of this to make it more inclusive.

We do need to settle on a name ASAP because we need to have one in place when taking signatures.

Re: Minutes from UCC meeting
I would be so up for us being the UCC ASS soc.
But only if I get to be PRO, and put Sir Mixalot all over all of our posters.
....come to think of it, maybe there's a reason I've never been a PRO....
But more seriously, have we anything sorted for signatures next week?

Actually, about the signatures thing, it turns out that I'll be working all day Tuesday, but I'll be available on Wednesday?

Re: Minutes from UCC meeting
Sean is booking the space down in Boole for Tuesday and Wednesday mornings I think, so either day is good.
I can do 11-1 Tuesday and 10-12 Wednesday.
Maybe if people just post which hours suit them to do.
