Homeopathy And All That Jazz
It's World Homeopathy Awareness Week! (WHAW)
http://www.worldhomeopathy.org/
Homeopathy is amazingly still with us after many centuries of scientific advancement. It is probably the biggest threat to our health system today. It's already trying to get funding off the NHS and it seems quite popular with the layman. It is literally "magic water", no properly conducted study has shown any positive effect. It's getting a see in with the NHS because it makes people feel better, which indeed it does - although more accurately, it's the placebo effect working not the "remembering molecule".
There was a campaign organised by Merseyside Skeptics (although it was way back on Jan 30th) to take a mass public homeopathic overdose. No-one died. The campaign was called 10:23, a reference to Avogadro's limit, when the solution is unlikely to have even one molecule of the active ingredient left in it.

I heard about the over dose. I literally have read nothing since I heard they were planning it. However even without reading I can already guess what these "doctors" will claim is the reason no one died from over dose.
The whole idea with Homeopathy is that the lower the dose the more effective the result. So if you overdose you are actually REDUCING the effect of the "medicine" on your system, not increasing it. The more you over dose, the safer you are.
They probably even treat perceived overdoses with more of the same medicine themselves.

You can watch the London "overdose" on youtube along with all the other cities.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xd7IUJv_Fvw&NR=1
The Irish Society of Homeopaths sees the stunt as "highly irresponsible" it then goes on to say that the homeopathic remedies are tailored to the person so taking a whole bunch of them won't work. The ISH then cites studies where homeopathy has made people FEEL better completely washing over the hundreds of protesters around Britain who should be dead.
Some of the dilutions, for example arsenic, are higher than the standard allowed in drinking water. You'd have to take thousands of homeopathic pills to get even near the amount of arsenic we take in daily.
Lowering the dose makes it stronger, well the H20 molecules in my tea have been in contact with other molecules of H20 which have been in contact with other molecules of substances which have been in contact with every other substance on the Earth...I'm holding the elixir of life!
P.S Mitchell & Webb for the win!

surely if they believe that -then drinking pure arsenic would be fine it would only be dangerous if diluted ???HylandPaddy wrote: Some of the dilutions, for example arsenic, are higher than the standard allowed in drinking water. Sorry to resurrect the thread, but I got another Mitchell & Webb vid mocking psuedoscience and quackery. It's not homeopaths but nutritionists. Nutritionist isn't a protected term, the real title is dietician. So anyone can call themselves nutritionists without training. To paraphrase Dara O' Briain; "Dietician is like dentist, and nutritionist is like toothiologist".
