Today is the 98th anniversary of Alan Turing's Birth. I can tell you about it because I have access to a Turing Machine and because none of my direct ancestors were killed in WWII... thanks, in no small part, to the efforts of Alan Turing.

Cool, I did not know I shared a birthday with him!

I also esteem him because without him there might not have been a Sid Meier's Civilization, no Ultima VII, no Elder Scrolls, no Fallout 3.

Here here.... although my Turing Machine has been crashing a bit lately. Think I need a defrag or a disk clean up or something. Anything at all that means I dont have to fork out on a bloody new Turing Machine.

Happy Birthday Ygern – It’s my daughter’s birthday today as well (The one that’s a puppy).
and to poor Alan Turing a pity he wasn't born a few years later.

He contributed so much to help bring down an oppressive and bigotted regime and it was the bigotry and oppression he faced in his own country that drove him to end his life.

I’m referring to the chemical castration, growing breasts and poison apple side to Mr Turing - a very tortured individual and not to his achievements in beating the Nazi’s although surely Nazi type repression killed him.
