I've just joined Ivana Bacik's campaign as she's in my constituency. If you have a local candidate who you think or know shares our views get involved.

For anyone interested you can join Ivana's campaign by e-mailing her at:

Ivana.Bacik@Oireachtas.ie

Ruairi Quinn is almost certainly on our side too.

Anyone else?

This is a great idea, rather than complain at the door find someone you would support and help them out, real grass-roots. :)

Can we get a list in members area?

What questions should we ask of candidates and their parties?
Can we compile a list of questions so that we all sing from the one hymn-sheet?

I like 1. 2. & 3.
Too many questions might be a bit much.

I agree with that

Agree with that point too

not a religious question

I'm really tired of hearing this objection. So what? A voter has a right to ask about issues that concern them, they don't have to ask only about religious / secular issues just because they are an atheist. And likewise, just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean they should skirt around the issues that concern them because not all atheists agree on certain issues.

I wouldn't support any politician whose views on gay rights & abortion weren't the same as mine, I regard anyone trying to limit people's rights to those things as much a threat to basic human rights as guaranteed in the EU constitution as a pro-religion conservative.

You can disagree on these issues as much as you want, but you have no right to insinuate that the issues should not be discussed.

This is something the AI committee has discussed. I've just started a new thread - AI Members/Supporters: Volunteer for Election Candidates. If you can get involved in this, let me know offline.

Thanks

I'll be asking candidates their views on the US military using Shannon but I don't think it is appropriate that AI or any other atheist body should have a policy on it as it - like abortion - is not a religious issue.
