A higher VAT will affect the tourist industry, more and more tourists look for other destinations, Ireland became too expensive, no value for money, it will create a black industry, the gain will be absorbed by unemployment fees and social welfare, shops are closing here in our area every day, 7 in one village, pubs are closing down, enterprises collapse, the last government squandered billions and created the actual problem, the new government is taking the wrong measures instead to deprivatise the banks and close most of them and confiscate the money and to expropriate church property and sell it and cover the debts, the church was the biggest supporter of FF, so let them bleed to fulfill the message of Jesus to be poor: "Don't take any money with you, nor a traveler's bag, nor an extra pair of sandals"....

Unfortunately the state cannot confiscate any property that belongs to the Church.

Article 44.2.6 of the Irish Constitution states that:-

"The property of any religious denomination or any educational instution shall not be diverted save for necessary works of public utility and on payment of compensation."

The constitution should be changed but wait until the country is totally on its knees financially, ( I know it takes a bit longer in this country)
