I've never heard anything this moronic from Tim Minchin
I read through the whole thing before I realized it was Brand. I thought Tim threw his intellect out the window and went back on almost everything he said.
Brand writes and speaks very well, this article represents and expresses his little quirks and edgy personality. I do like the guy on the whole. Brands position however can be summed up in one line "I think God exists beyond the current reach of science" i.e. we will possibly discover God in the future.
Brand here doesn't just assume that science and religion are compatible but that science is needed for religious revelation of God! Since his definition of God is poorly defined, it's difficult to see a conflict between a void and dynamic self-testing accumulative body of knowledge.
All he has really say is: "We can't rule out the existence of a God" but posits himself a pseudo theist who espouses ear friendly contradictions like "That the mystical will become physical".
