Re: Before The Big Bang
I read 'Why Does E=mc^2?' by Brian Cox and Jeff Forshaw. It explains Einstein's theories of relativity but moreover gives a good summary of the universe as we understand it today, how we attempted to understand it over the years and contemporary research in the field (testing around the Standard Mod...

Iona Institute Youtube account removed
Google has refused to explain why it has closed the YouTube account of the Iona Institute. The account of the conservative Christian think tank was closed today "due to repeated or severe violations of our terms of service". When a Google spokeswoman was asked what the "repeated violations" were, s...

Re: Credit Union Prayer
Yeah, the prayer seems unnecessary to me. During the next few days I have raised the event with others to seek their views on the prayer and most said they just rose and went along with it. In my opinion, taking the initiative to go against the grain and discuss with people is a good start and I com...

I personally prefer forums like this over Facebook and Twitter to discuss things properly.

Artistic License
I'm not sure if any of you have seen this in the news recently but an elderly Spanish parishioner tried to restore a fresco in her local church: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-19349921 Apparently the painting, of the legendary Jesus Christ, has been there for >100 years. For the sake of art,...

Re: Turn Off the Red Light Campaign
You've made some very good points. From that article, I like the approach that Sweden is taking in terms of education: Since 1999, the number of Swedish men buying women has dropped from 12.7 to 7.6 per cent. The Swedish government runs public education campaigns against prostitution on the basis th...

Turn Off the Red Light Campaign
A billboard campaign has been launch to promote the Turn Off the Red Light Campaign. From their website : "Turn Off The Red Light is a campaign to end prostitution in Ireland now, and to end sex trafficking to Ireland. We are campaigning to criminalise the purchase of sex". They are supported by 50 ...

Re: That Poor Whale
I understand why they don't want to make any attempts to move it, but surely the alternative is not the let it suffer the prolonged pain and torment of leaving it to "die naturally". We wouldn't let a dog or a cat suffer like that. I don't know much about euthanising 50ft whales but this 30ft whale...
