Re: How did you/ will you vote?

1) Higgins - because I think he'll do the job well. 2) Norris - because I like the cut of his jib. 3) Davis - because she's vanilla enough for the role. I voted No on both referenda. I think the state has more than enough power to conduct investigations as it is. It's we who watch the watchers. Whil...

Re: Late Late Show

This is also a philosophy I've adopted in relation to any kind of superstitious statement, e.g. "it'll work out, touch wood", and "I'm a total perfectionist, like all Virgos". I was driving with a friend recently and I said something like "I hope this goes well today" and he said "touch wood". Ther...

Re: 9/11

I can remember exactly where I was. I had been made redundant only days before, fell asleep on the sofa (as was my wont!) and managed to turn on sky about 5 or ten minutes before the second plane hit. I spent the next 48 hours glued to the sofa, phoning friends with updates. It was Hollywood come al...

Re: Late Late Show

If people find it conflicts with their religion, let them work it out themselves This is the secular argument in a nutshell isn't it? The problem is that the religious are not content to work it out for themselves. It's their stance that: "if you want to teach your kids facts, do it at home." They ...

Re: cyber troll gaoled

I have a lot of personal experience with Asperger's, but I don't see any problem with this guy getting 18 weeks. It's 4 months., he'll be out in 2. There's no excusing the kind of behaviour he was involved in. It's the extreme example of the kind of mindless comment droppers I come across online. Pe...

Re: Late Late Show

No, Dawkins is not an example of the kind of thing I mentioned at all. My gripe was entirely devoted to the anonymous commentors on forums across the internet. Dawkins is a very polite person, I've seen countless instances of this when talking with religious people. That doesn't preclude a frank exc...

Re: 9/11

I think 9/11 is the only "Everyone remembers where they were when...." news event in my lifetime. Except for that little incident with the wave that killed 230,000 people in 2004. Or the earthquake in Haiti only a year ago that killed 316,000. Those are impossible figures to get your head around. Y...

Re: Junior Certificate Religeous Education Exam

from the exam, Explain how the religious belief of a person could be challenged by either atheism or agnosticism so the default is religious that could be challenged. The main point of contact between science and religion is that both accept that there is order and design in the universe. The world...
