Some of you old-timers may remember me, but probably not most of you. Shortly before my last sabbatical from AI began I was looking for a 'secular symbol' of strength and temperance. This, as you might understand, caused some to fear that I was being deceptive, trying to play some silly religious game and/or pander to Irish Atheists for some unknown reason. Many suggested I just stick with crosses and rosaries. Boring.
For anyone who may recall that thread so long ago, I wanted to drop by and let you know that while deployed in Afghanistan last year such a symbol did occur to me: A father's ring.

A simple titanium ring with the names of my sons engraved on the inside. If being a good father isn't the pinnacle of strength and temperance, I don't know what is.
