freedom of religion
freedom of religion
Hello, first of all thank f**k that I found this forum!!
I live in the North West and moved here from the Netherlands.
Thanks for showing me there are sane people in Ireland!!!
I have a lot of discussions with people here that put in one sentence that they are against racism and homophobic behaviour and for freedom of religion.
I put it to them that religion is the main source of the first two!
Have not had a good answer back but I feel pretty isolated here in the North West since even the most radical people think religion is a freedom which should be respected. I disagree, I stopped respecting it a long time ago when I saw arguments of none believers or even people from difirent religions got ridiculed and dismissed as non important.
Needed to get that of my chest! Thanks again for keeping me sane!!

Pope says atheists pick & choose their morals. Correct. Today I will be frowning on child abuse & not having a problem with homosexuality.

Welcome to Ireland and the forum!
Like you I would not respect any of the religions in Ireland or indeed the globe, but I still respect a persons wishes to worship as they please.

My view is that a person has the freedom to believe what ever they want, as long as they don't unite in a church and start to limit the freedom of different beliefs or indeed the atheist.munsterdevil wrote:Welcome to Ireland and the forum!

I always find/found that people with a religion demand respect for their beliefs but they don't have to respect your atheist life style.
Wee example: When you have food with one person of a religous back ground and 10 of non religous back ground the 10 people have to quiet so that one person can pray. Why can that person not respect me and pray some where else or just don't?

Reminds me of a guy we had at work some years back, always demanded half a minute silence in the canteen at lunchtime so he could recite his prayers. Funny thing was that he one day ridiculed a colleague for avoiding walking under a ladder; called it irrational superstition.Wee example: When you have food with one person of a religous back ground and 10 of non religous back ground the 10 people have to quiet so that one person can pray. Re: freedom of religion
thanks that made me laugh!! I always tell religous people that the fairy tales of brothers grim is a good book too. Always get sheepish looks at that one.Globi wrote:Reminds me of a guy we had at work some years back, always demanded half a minute silence in the canteen at lunchtime so he could recite his prayers. Welcome to the forums Tulip1
I would like to do a wee study on the morals of Brother's Grimm, because the originals were aptly - Grim. Granny eating wolves and it turns out Rupenzel was pregnant. I think the Bible is getting the same Disney treatment, nobody can see the cruelties or that, Baby Jesus, Prince of Peace, Meek and Mild was a nutter.tulip1 wrote: thanks that made me laugh!! That's what I mean. The bible should just be seen as a book of storries and nothing more!dugges wrote:Welcome to the forums Tulip1
